Blind Date
The blind date started at 7:20pm and ended around at 10:00pm. I think we had a good talk, although I wouldn't know what she thought of our conversations.
It's always strange and sometimes interesting to find out more about yourself than the one you're sitting right in front of. Although it's not like I go out on blind dates often or go out on a date at all, there was that predefined pattern to our evening. We met, greeted, ate, and then we went out to go get ourselves some desert. I was (as she probably was, also) keep thinking of an image (sorry, I finally caught Hong's Woman on the Beach); something that does not break away from the norm: opening the door for her, paying for dinner, and trying my best to be a man.
Being a very introverted person, practical, and with a thought process older than my actual age serious most of the time, I felt like I was talking to a teenager, someone much younger than I. She's only two years younger, but she made me feel like I'm much more older, and much more boring, too. Then it struck me: I am very old-fashioned and very much boring. It was a sad moment. If my sister-in-law hadn't set this blind date up, I wouldn't have had to face this simple fact. But, no, I had to go out on a blind date. I'm okay, really.
Actually, as we grew a bit comfortable with facing each other only few inches away, I was so busy trying to just be myself that I often forgot that I was suppose to impress her. I admit I was a bit nervous at first, and maybe that's why I was forced to see her more as a classmate than some love interest. This definitely made me feel more comfortable, but I think I lost her interest from there on.
But the good thing about this blind date is that I might have just made a new friend (wonderful, isn't it?), and we can talk about blood types and stereotypes all the time! Seriously, what's with Korean girls and blood types? No, don't get me wrong, because her talking about blood types actually provided some decent amount of padding between real conversations, keeping things flowing and what not. But, seriously, come on. And she says she minors in chemistry?
Well, I'm probably just complaining to make myself feel less pathetic, and I'm proud to admit it! What?
Oh, well, at least we both like watching K-dramas. Maybe we'll have some wicked conversations about Ju-mong and Hwang Jin-hee, which she recommended I watch for its wonderful aesthetics. Then I can bore her to death talking about Hong Sang-soo films and or dramas like Love and Ambition (사랑과 야망). Well, maybe not to death, because that would mean I lose points as a love interest I'm sure.
