When Science Meets Horror

I remember watching Event Horizon in the theater at the last showing. My brother and I walked to his car talking about how horrible we felt after watching the film. The next day, I think I remember telling my friends to go catch it while it's still playing in theaters. Guess we all want to share that bad, terrible, horrific feeling with the others.

I never knew who directed the film, but now that I know... This may be Anderson's best film to date. It's got good performances out of Sam Neill and the rest of the cast, and the production design is amazing for being a genre film. I'm sure many would think of Solaris as far as the overall narrative goes, but it's really about the visuals and the melting of scifi and horror concepts that makes this film work, perhaps even unique. Hey, it's definitely better than Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil in my book.

It's not a masterpiece, but I think it's definitely a must see for horror movie fans or even for science fiction buffs, although it brings up the frequently visited theme of humans attaining scientific achievement without knowing where it will lead them.

Recently, I think Event Horizon has become an unofficial classic and is considered a cult film by today's standards. I think it very well deserves it.
